Gipsy Moth IV- Leg 17 Cairns to Darwin

In September 2006 I sailed as crew leader on leg 17 of  the currently progressing circumnavigation by Sir Francis Chichester's yacht "Gipsy Moth IV". The refurbishment of the yacht was conceived by Paul Gelder, editor of Yachting Monthly Magazine, and the yacht now belongs to the UKSA. Details about this leg and the whole project can be found at http://www.gipsymoth.org/man_leg17_main.asp#  I may add further information later, but at this stage this page is only intended to provide a Download link to a  KML file that can be opened in Google Earth to show the approximate route of the yacht. If you have Google Earth installed on your computer then just click on this link. If you want to save the file then  Right click and select "Save Target as" , but be careful not to allow your computer to automatically rename the file as an .xml file. Then  click on the saved "GM4leg17Route.kml"  file to open it in Google Earth. You must have Google Earth installed on your computer to view the file. A snapshot of the route is below. The crosses on a green background are places we did not actually visit, but which are referred to in my article about leg 17.
